Hanif Kureishi, Agnes Martin Exhibition, Tristan and Isolde at 150, Queen and Country

Playwright, screenwriter, novelist and film-maker Hanif Kureishi explains his rediscovery of the essay form as he discusses his new book of short stories and essays, Love and Hate. The collection includes the account of how he was cheated out of his life savings by his financial advisor. A new exhibition at Tate Modern traces the career of the minimalist artist Agnes Martin, best known for her understated abstract paintings. Charlotte Mullins reviews. To mark the 150th anniversary of its premiere, composer Julian Anderson and Wagner expert John Deathridge reflect on the impact of this operatic classic. Queen and Country is the sequel to writer and director John Boorman's 1987 classic Hope and Glory, set in WW2. The film picks up the story nearly a decade later during the Korean War. Jason Solomons reviews. Presenter: John Wilson Producer: Ellie Bury.…read more
