Jed Mercurio, Cartel Land, Michel Houellebecq

Jed Mercurio, the acclaimed writer of Line of Duty, talks about his latest project: an adaptation of Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover. At first glance it's a surprising choice for a writer of contemporary urban tv dramas but he tells Samira how he believes the issues of class and the impact of war on people's lives mean it still hits home - and why he's chosen to leave some of Lawrence's frank language about sex on the page. Documentary Cartel Land delves into the world of Mexican drug cartels by following two modern-day vigilante groups operating on either side of the US-Mexico border. Molly Dineen reviews this double Sundance winner for Front Row. The French literary novelist, poet, and essayist Michel Houellebecq is in conversation with Samira about his contentious novel Submission, which is about to be published in English. The storyline - which caused controversy when it was published in French earlier this year - envisions a near-future France where Islamic law comes into force. It was published on the same day as the massacre at the offices of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, which killed 11 people. Presenter: Samira Ahmed Producer: Ella-mai Robey.…read more
